Pair of Olivier Mourgue armchairs & stools for Airborne. Made with chromed steel. Very decorative. Circa 1959, France. Very good vinatge condition. Olivier Mourgue (born 1939) is a French industrial designer best known as the designer of the futuristic Djinn chairs used in the film 2001 “A Space Odyssey”. The main manufacturer of his designs, “Airborne International”, is no longer in business. The Djinn chair remains highly sought after as a classic example of 1960s era modern furniture design. Oliver Mourgue is also a painter and landscape designer. Most of his works can be found in museum collections. Oliver Morgue recently published a book which is titled “Imaginary Gardens and Little Theatres” for the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts.
