Jacques Pouchain ceramic plate. Beige ceramic plate. Tree of life design Signed. circa 1960, France. Very good vintage condition. Jacques Pouchain was born in Dieulefit, France in 1925. At the age of 25 he left Paris for the South of France to devoted himself to the art. He set up a pottery studio in the little village Dieulefit. His habit of applying a white over-glaze to decoration engraved in manganese oxide revealed a modern approach to pottery comparable with practise in Great Britain and the United States during the 1950s. In the 1950s familiar animals were recurrent themes in his work – peacocks, chickens, owls, horses, sheep and rams.
